Insight Team Performance

Introducing IBEX

Insight Benchmarking for Excellence - the way to evaluate your team’s success:

What does success mean in the world of Insight?

Team performance metrics are usually the domain of the HR department, and focus on broad generic measures that can be applied to teams throughout the business. However, these don’t necessarily get to the heart of what a top performing Insight team looks like and therefore what to aspire to over the longer term.

Based on what we have learnt from working with our Forum members, we have been able to formulate a very specific vision for a ‘World Class’ Insight team and a systematic means of benchmarking team progress against that. An approach that we have called IBEX, Insight Benchmarking for Excellence.

Insight teams that have been through our IBEX process have experienced immediate benefits and are well on their way to achieving their team vision.

Typical areas for development that arise from IBEX are the Insight Team’s ability to:

  • Spot and commercially evaluate potential opportunities,

  • Successfully engage with stakeholders to maximise impact,

  • Develop a consultancy style culture of mentoring within the team to ensure valuable experience is shared.

What might yours be?

How does IBEX help create a Team Vision?

IBEX is open to any Insight Team (whether a forum member or not) that is looking for guidance on team development.

It is comprised of four key elements:

1) The starting point is a Team Performance Audit that is completed by the head of the team. This audit is an online form which evaluates overall team performance against the following key areas:

  • Whether the right fundamentals are in place

  • How work is prioritised

  • The quality of work

  • The successful delivery of key messages throughout the business

  • Evidence of impact on the bottom line

The resulting report highlights:

  • The strengths to shout about

  • The weaknesses to work on

  • & Recommendations on how to increase the team’s impact on the rest of the business.

2) The second step is the creation of a Stakeholder Benchmark.

Key stakeholders throughout the business are invited to assess the team against a subset of the same measures, again using an online form they can complete at their convenience. Not only does that provide an opportunity for the Insight team to engage with stakeholders but the report will directly highlight individual Stakeholder perceptions of current team performance as well as their expectations of the team.

The results will also provide clear guidance for action planning, based on a combination of what's important to stakeholders and what they want you to improve upon:

The final two elements of IBEX are:

3) Team Development Planning which include working sessions to define key priorities for change, and

4) Implementation Support as a continuous source of bespoke consultancy/facilitation throughout the whole process.

Steps 2, 3 and 4 are optional.
